چکیده

Most of the models describing the fate and transport of xenobiotic organic chemicals in natural streams are steady state models (e.g. EXAMS, SYMPTOX4, GREATER,…). In view of ecological risk assessment, the current Predicted Environmental Concentration (PEC) estimation method in the European Union (EU) member states is based on a steady state in-stream fate model (OECD, 1999). These models assume continuous and uniform flow emissions, which is not justifiable as, in reality, the flow varies significantly with time. In such cases, a dynamic modelling approach is more realistic because it accounts for the temporal variability (Verdonck et al., 2002). Thus, the refinement of in-stream fate models is required for realistic exposure assessment.

Integrated modelling of eutrophication and organic contaminant fate in rivers

Eutrophication and contamination by toxic organic pollutants are the major problems in water quality management. Despite the fact that both problems have been subjected to extensive research and modelling, they have traditionally been treated separately. Because the models used are single-issue models, many interactions between nutrient cycles and organic contaminant fate and effect are missed....

The Use of Linear Alkylbenzene Sulphonates as a Molecular Marker for Tracing Urban Sewage Pollution in Abbasabad River (Hamadan) in 2019: A Descriptive Study

Background and Objectives: In the past decades, due to population growth and industrial activities, important water resources around the world have been exposed to domestic, industrial and agricultural wastewater. One of the most important wastewater pollutants is linear alkylbenzene sulphonates (LASs). This study aimed to investigate the concentration and health risk assessment of these compou...

Effect of Nutrient Dynamics on Organic Contaminant Fate in Rivers: a Microcosm Study

• Including biofilm processes in the organic contaminant fate model in rivers is very important, especially in shallow rivers. • The nutrient load dynamics can affect the fate of organic contaminants, and thus including nutrients in the organic contaminant fate modelling is necessary. • The sensitivity of LAS degradation to the ammonia nitrogen is an interesting finding and can induce further r...

River health assessment using macroinvertebrates and water quality parameters: A case of the Shanbeh-Bazar River, Anzali Wetland, Iran

The study of benthic macroinvertebrate communities is one of the most common methods for assessing the effects of stresses on the biological conditions of aquatic ecosystems and water quality monitoring. This research was conducted to study the changes in the macroinvertebrate communities in the Shanbeh-Bazar River, Anzali International wetland and the effects of environmental factors. Sampling...
